Sviluppato da Seth Lover, che si unì a Fender nel 1971, il pickup
"cunife" presenta un design humbucking a due bobine che utilizza 12
viti cunife collegate sul fondo da una piastra in acciaio. Cunife è
una lega che prende il nome dai suoi tre metalli costituenti: rame
(Cu), nichel (Ni) e ferro (Fe) e nei pickup degli strumenti produce
un suono distintivo ad "alta fedeltà" con bassi ricchi e alti
luminosi, che non perdono mai il loro attacco o la definizione
quando vengono spinti. Fender ha utilizzato campioni dei magneti
originali per un periodo di due anni per sviluppare questi pickup
ed ha riportato il materiale esattamente a come era 40 anni fa.
