Salvador Castellon (1823-) y Antonio Pomar Yedro (1820-)

634 mm Scale, 48 mm Nut. 3 piece Spruce Soundboard and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Bar Frets. 3 Fan Braces and a Bridge Strap. Single liners attaching the top and back to the sides. All original French Polish on the Soundboard and the back, a single swipe on the sides since it left the workshop in Malaga in 1853.

This guitar has a complete set of Brand New Pegs.

As the photos clearly show: there are 2 patches on the treble sides in the waist area and the upper bout of the side.

This repair could have even been done 100 years ago, the guitar being 170 years old.

This guitar is very rare. My colleague, the master investigator and luthier, the late, Jose Romanillos, has individual biographies of these two guitar makers - Salvador Castellon (1823-) and Antonio Pomar Yedro (1820-) in his 2002 book "The Vihuela and the Spanish Guitar", but there is no mention of the fact they also worked together at their workshop located at: calle de Martinez, num. 8 in Malaga. (My name is on 3 pages in "The Vihuela and the Spanish Guitar" for my contributions, as well.)

They are as much like Santos Hernandez and Domingo Esteso in the Manuel Ramirez shop, as they are both notated in the public records of Malaga, as journeymen workers in the taller of Antonio de Lorca Garcia (1798-1870), along with two other journeymen guitar makers: Jose Maria Torrens and Jose Salido Naranjo (1831-).

The label reads "Fabrica de Guitarras / Castellon Y Pomar / calle de Martinez, num. 8 / Malaga / 1853." This shop was located .75 km or just under 1/2 mile away from the workshop of Antonio de Lorca Garcia at calle Carreteria 13, Malaga. See the map.

These two guitar makers were about 50 years of age when the grandson of Antonio de Lorca Garcia was born: Antonio de Lorca Ramirez. They undoubtedly also met him.

Antonio de Lorca Garcia received his master guitar makers degree in 1828, when these 2 luthiers were 5 and 8 years old, they probably entered in his employ when they were 13 years old, and worked their way to becoming journeymen some years later, and rest is history.
