Mark Levinson LNP-2 Preamps Custom Made for Chick Corea #54773

WORKING CONDITION: Very Good -  Both units are currently owned by the service tech that took care of Chick Coreas recording studio and are in very good working condition. Note that the VU meters only work as standard VU meters -- the HF+ and peak modes do not function, which is a common issue with all LNP-2 units. The pots can occasionally be scratchy as well. They are military-grade silver wire-wound potentiometers and should clear right up with some exercise. Overall these are in very good working condition.

NOTE: Neither unit has PHONO Preamps!

PHYSICAL CONDITION: Very Good - These are in very good physical condition. A few slight scratches can be seen around both units, as well as a bit of rack rash. Each knob shows some wear as well. Overall, though, both are in fantastic shape, with all hardware intact, VU bulbs lighting, and the chassis generally clean. They're in very good physical condition.

Please note this listing includes only ONE power supply to power both units.

These units are custom keyboard monitor controllers made in the early 1980s for Chick Corea's live performance rig. They were built to order from the bones of the legendary Levinson LNP-2 hi-fi preamplifier. These two units are unique in several regards:

- Neither unit has phono preamps (none were needed since this was made for line-level inputs.)
- On serial #1793, the main XLR outputs are mic level out, intended to be sent to the FOH system. On serial #1790, the main XLR outputs are standard line level outputs.
- "Tape In 1&2" and "Record Out 1&2" operate in a standard fashion, in Chick Corea's case probably used as effect or cue sends.

Both units use the rare, medical grade Lemo/Camac connectors. Both units function properly and according to published specifications, having been tested and verified by veteran LA studio technician Charlie Bolois. During the '80s and early '90s Charlie worked for Chick as an independent audio technician and helped to care for the recording equipment at Mad Hatter. Of course, these units sound SPECTACULAR! Chick was surrounded by the finest studio musicians and engineers at Mad Hatter Studio, and his live performances mirrored that ultimate studio sound experience.

In the included video from 1986, at 18:25 you can clearly see two of the custom Levinson LNP-2 units mounted in the rack located behind bassist John Patitucci, playing with the Chick Corea Electrik Band.
