Very clean and no corrosion in battery compartment. has been tested with external DC adaptor (not included).
comes with original hard shell case and all playcards (pictured).
Very light, very portable, very fun. This thing is bonkers. All the sounds are super cheesy, all the time: think like Nintendo chip tunes, but somehow warmer and woolier, and with less realistic drums. Several drum patterns are available-- as well a handful of instruments. Super fun to play, it does all sorts of accompiament, arpeggios, automatic chord accompaniment with bass patterns. All in-tempo and in perfect rhythm with the drum patterns. There is a chord mode that enables you to play chords with a single finger... of course you can play the keys and chords normally also, if you're some sort of gifted music snob. But if you were gifted and snobby, why would you be playing this? This machine is anti-music kitsch all the way.
Likely the world's first keyboard with key lighting feature. Unlike modern such keyboards, not the keys itself but a row of tiny LEDs above the keys flash up to teach keyboard playing. Comes with sheet music for many of your favorite soft rock, easy listening and disco(!) songs. Not only that, but the sheet music is printed on "PlayCards", which have a strip of magnetic tape on their lower edge that stores the music data, and can be loaded into memory and played back. Like an intermedium analog between piano rolls and digital MIDI files.
To read the data, the card is simply moved by hand from right to left through a slot on the instrument top, which only takes a second (extremely fast in comparison to that time's homecomputer datasette tapes and diskettes). The PlayCard musics are quite complex orchestrated and contain multiple accompaniment voices; thus they were far superior to the barcode reader approach of Casio's competitor MT-70 and resemble rather the quality of Casio's later used ROM- Pack cartridge technology.
Anyway check out the Keen on Keys video for more information than you ever wanted to know about this thing, and to hear what it sounds like.
