Up for sale is this vintage 1969 Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar. This guitar is due for the typical "old acoustic work" (mainly, a neck set), but is a very clean example and the prime candidate for the work. This is a transitional model, having square-shoulders and no volute or "Made in USA" stamp, so it's a very cool, short-lived variation on the model.

This guitar is all original and in very nice condition for its age. The original sunburst finish is bright and unfaded and the instrument doesn't look to have been played much. There are some dings and scuffs, the worst of which we have tried to capture in the photos, as well as a decent amount of natural finish checking that looks great. The tuners, saddle, truss rod cover, and end pin are all original, but the low E tuning key is bent a bit although it functions fine.

The guitar does have high action with the saddle all the way down and is ready for a neck set. The bracing and bridge plate are in good condition and have never been messed with, which is always a welcome surprise on any vintage acoustic guitar. The truss rod does function in both directions, but the neck does have a slight twist in the treble side (bass side straight, but the treble side shows some relief) which we do often see on Gibson acoustics from this era. The original frets show light wear.

The original softshell Gibson case is included and is very clean as well, including the original Gibson tag on the center pocket lid which is usually missing. The instrument will be well-packed inside to ensure safe shipping.

While this guitar will need some love to be playable, it's one of the nicest examples that we've seen and is a prime candidate to be done right and become someones main instrument. Don't miss out...
