2004 Gibson Custom Shop R7 Historic 1957 Gold Top
I bought the guitar used in 2008. I have never gigged it, so the condition is virtually the same as when I bought it. Truth is, as I’ve moved to playing exclusively acoustic, I’ve only picked this up a few times a year the past 6 years. Time for someone else to enjoy it and put it to good use! Excellent overall, but there are some scratches on the back and a nick on the back of the headstock between the A and D tuners. The gold top has just a few superficial scratches that could be buffed out. IOW, minor play wear for a 20 year old guitar.
Beautiful one piece mahogany body with maple cap, mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard. Absolutely beautiful guitar that plays like butter. I cannot even remember the last time I needed to adjust the truss rod (the 57’s have a chunkier neck). Very stable guitar.
Tone Pros locking bridge
Lightweight aluminum tailpiece
Fully rewired:
CTS low tolerance, vintage taper 500K pots
Sprague paper-in-oil Vitamin Q caps (.022 mfd)
Guitarforce custom wound pickups
50’s style wiring
I suggest googling “Guitarforce pickups.” They sound amazing. Though not a household name, they were made by a boutique winder and received high accolades on the Les Paul and My Les Paul forums. Sadly, the winder ran into some personal problems and discontinued production. The pickups in this guitar were a custom wind on which I personally consulted with Kevin to come up with a wind to represent a “slightly hot” set of PAF,s (nothing crazy hot, DC resistances are in the low to middle 8’s). I liked them so much I also bought two more sets of his stock humbucker sets, which I still have to this day.
I imagine this is as close as you can get to playing a real 1950’s Les Paul without the 6-figure price tag. Weight 9.2 pounds. Ships in the original Gibson Custom Shop hard shell case.
