Another super-rare unit. This 1979 Fender Mustang is indeed a left-handed guitar. This guitar's vibrant sunburst finish shines brilliant-just like the day it was made at the original Fender Factory in Fullerton, California U.S.A. back in early 1979. There are at least 4 different factory employee initials present along with other interesting inspection stamps. It is in excellent condition.
The body is constructed of Ash and the high-contrast grain looks really cool under the translucent tri-color sunburst finish. The edges of the body are contoured very nicely. There is one pin-head sized chip on the edge of the front and there are a couple of small chips on the edges of the back. Near the neck slot, there is a line chip in the finish, but not the wood itself. Its pretty slight and along the side/edge-see photos.
The neck joint is solid. The maple neck is smooth and straight. It is clean and has a great feel. There are a couple of line scratches on the backside near the 3rd fret-see photos. It has a classic Mustang profile-vintage 60's measuring .895" deep at the 1st fret and .917" deep at the 12th fret with a standard nut width of 1.60" or 1 5/8" if you prefer fractions. The tuners all function nicely and the guitar holds tune very well. The Logo and headstock display excellent. The maple fingerboard is very clean. The frets are in excellent, near-new condition-see photos. The string height is set low for an easy action. It measures .010" at the 1st fret and .050" at the 12th fret. Of course the bridge is fully adjustable and you can lower or raise the strings if you wish to change the string height. As it is-it plays lights out. Feels really nice up and down the fingerboard. The pickups have an excellent signal and are very well balanced. The neck pickup reads 5.71 Ohms and the bridge reads 5.73 Ohms. The pickups have partial date codes on them-one has a year that reads either 1973 or 1978. The selection switches all function nicely and the potentiometers are smooth and quiet. The original CTS potentiometers date to the 22nd week of 1979.
The bridge and vibrato are in great condition as well-the vibrato works smoothly with no issues. The original trem arm is included! The guitar is very fun to play and sits comfortably in your lap. Its a nice vintage Fender for whomever is looking to add a really rare one to their collection.
Comes with newer Fender Hard case.
