A rare Japanese-made Fender Flame Elite (B-serial, 1985-1986).
Flame (and its sister model, Esprit) was Fender's answer to the Yamaha SG, which was Yamaha's response to the Gibson Les Paul. This competitive lineage is evident in the instrument's design and features, which are quite atypical for Fender: a set neck with a smooth transition into the body, a tilted 3+3 headstock, a Les Paul-style electronics layout, and two unique humbuckers with plastic covers and exposed pole pieces. The body is alder with a spruce top, and the neck is maple and rosewood. The guitar also features extensive binding and an ornate appearance.
This particular Flame Elite Kahler version came with a factory-installed tremolo, making it a rare find. The Kahler system is fully functional, although some locking screws are missing. Currently, all parts have been removed for convenience but will be included in the sale.
The frets and electronics are in good condition, as is the overall technical state of the guitar. There was a crack on the side of the body that has been repaired, sanded down, and polished; this is now purely a cosmetic issue. There are wear marks, lacquer chips, and other signs of use typical of a nearly forty-year-old guitar.
The Flame is an excellent studio and stage instrument: in addition to the tremolo system, two powerful humbuckers, and versatile layout, it also boasts a built-in coil split, offering even more tonal variety.
Included is a vintage 1980s Fender case: worn, with broken hinges (the lid comes off completely), but still charismatic and fully protective.
