For those who want to learn to wire their guitar themselves, or want to really be able to slap a “built-not-bought” badge to your guitar’s Tinder profile, our DIY Wiring Upgrade Kits give you all the components needed to refresh your guitar’s wiring, yourself.

This DIY Telecaster Wiring Upgrade Kit is designed to fit most American and Mexican made Fender Telecasters with no modification required. However, if you are installing this assembly on an import guitar with metric-sized pots, you may need to drill out your control plate holes to accept the slightly larger US-spec pots and buy US-spec knobs.

Mojo Dijon Yellow Capacitors:
These are replicas of the tone capacitors Marshall used back in the 60’s; Philips Mullard “Mustard” capacitors. Many guitarists and builders swear by these caps and even still seek out true vintage mustard caps by salvaging them from old amps, scouring eBay, and utilizing whatever other sources they can identify. Though the aesthetic is not 100%, the manufacturer of these Dijon Yellow capacitors stayed true to the original film and foil construction. The reason why film and oil, paper and oil, and other old-school construction methods are more expensive is that part of the manufacturing process still requires the use of human hands. Our Dijon Yellow tone caps are film and foil type capacitors who undergo the same manufacturing and inspection process as the original “Mustard” caps.

Don’t All Capacitors with the Same Value Sound the Same?
Nope! There are two different capacitor classes: for ease we’ll call them premium and cheapos. Premium tone capacitors are generally within 1-10% of their target value. Cheapos, often found in knock-offs or beginner guitars, can be as far as 80% off from their target value. Capacitance can also vary with frequency, temperature, and applied voltage; some ceramic capacitors are even somewhat microphonic. If your guitar uses a cheap capacitor and you think your guitar sounds different under stage lights than when you’re offstage, you’re probably right.
