GVT Phenolic Paper NOS White Clay Dot Inlays (10 Dots, 1/4") – 1959–1963 Pre-CBS Fender® Material

These are genuine NOS white clay dot inlays crafted from authentic pre-CBS phenolic paper with vulcanized fiber board, showcasing the distinctive pattern found on vintage Fender® instruments. Ideal for vintage restoration, these dots mirror the exact look of inlays used on classic Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Mustang, and Precision Bass models from 1958 through 1964.

  • Set Includes: 10 dot inlays
  • Diameter: 1/4" (6.35mm)
  • Thickness: 1.5mm–1.7mm (with slight tolerance for vintage accuracy)
  • NOS Material: Aged for an authentic vintage appearance

For the purist seeking true vintage authenticity, GVT delivers again. These rare, genuine vintage-spec side dots are perfect for updating, restoration, or high-quality new builds—pieces like these are hard to come by!

  • Vintage Precision: Slight tolerance of 1/4 - 6.35mm to account for minor variations in milling, ensuring a true fit on vulcanized boards.

Now is the time to capture the true pre-CBS feel. Ideal for those looking to restore or recreate the essence of classic instruments. Reach out with any questions or for additional photos!

Installation Notes:

Installing phenolic clay dots and side dots, like original vintage pieces, requires careful handling. We recommend applying a nitro lacquer or sealer to the top surface of each marker before gluing to reinforce and solidify the surface.

For adhering the markers to the fingerboard, you may use cyanoacrylate, Titebond, or—ideally—fish glue for a more authentic bond.

Installation Instructions for Pre-CBS Clay Dots (Vintage Style):

First of all, seal the surface of the dot with a clear sealing lacquer — this can be any nitrocellulose or acrylic varnish. Follow the manufacturer's recommended drying times.

Once the sealant is dry, clean the dot cavity using a damp brush, then apply the glue. You can use hide glue, Titebond, or wood glue.

Let the glue dry for about 10–12 hours, but before it sets completely, make sure to clean off any excess using water and a damp brush.

Once fully dry, you can radius the fretboard or shape it to match the desired curvature. It's important to fine-tune and adjust the dot so it doesn't stick out too much from the fretboard surface — this isn’t a big issue, but you can control it by adjusting the amount of glue applied.

Now it’s time to enjoy your guitar with the most authentic vintage pre-CBS style position markers!
