Rare 1970s 'Grey' Ross Compressor. This is an era 2 model compressor.
Era 1 (the rarest) version of the grey Ross Compressor was made in the early 1970s in Lakewood, Colorado. They say 'sustain' and 'volume' and feature a box around the ROSS logo on the front.
Era 2 (this version) was manufactured in Chanute, Kansas after Ross moved manufacturing in 1977-78. Note 'volume' was replaced with 'level'. Plus the removal of the box around the text on the front.
Era 3 was made when manufacturing was moved to Taiwan. These say 'volume' and 'level' and feature the reintroduction of the box around the text.
There's a great video history of the ROSS Compressor that can be viewed if you scroll to the end of the photos of this item.
I personally didn't do much chicken pickin' when I used this but it certainly gives a lovely compressed Tame Impala sound when you throw a Rickenbacker through it.
