First-year, 1935 Selmer Balanced Action Alto Saxophone #215xx, with original lacquer, recently overhauled by Hammer Woodwind. This saxophone stands out as not only the finest Balanced Action I've ever played but also one of the sweetest sounding Altos I've ever experienced, period. This sentiment is shared by Mike Hammer himself and a former lead Alto player from the Buddy Rich Band who had played the horn to confirm my critique.
Several enhancements have been made to this instrument. The octave key arm has been repaired, a new spring and saddle were installed, and the neck has been meticulously cleaned due to prior soldering issues with the old saddle. All new modern springs have been installed, greatly improving the action to resemble that of a Mark VI, ensuring consistent performance across the entire horn. Additionally, Hammer has re-padded the saxophone using metal tone boosters and optimized the key heights for enhanced sound projection. In short, this saxophone is a true standout and a must-have for any serious lead alto saxophonist. Comes in a non-original case.
