Up for sale is this vintage 1969 Gibson EB-1 violin body bass guitar. These are always fun to see show up and it doesn't happen often, so we are thrilled to offer this one!
This bass is in nice condition for its age, but was obviously played heavily. This has resulted in heavy wear to the original finish, which can be seen in the photos. Honestly, it looks great and the Custom Shop could take some notes from this one. The original pearl logo block finish has started chipping, leaving only a partial Gibson logo which is pretty common during this era. The area under the pickguard shows wear and a reaction area under the mounting hole on the top (pictured). There are no cracks or breaks.
The instrument is all original with the exception of the pickguard (the current one is a fairly crude, but correctly shaped older replacement), the jack plate, and the tuners. The original mudbucker sounds great and the controls work as they should. The bridge is in nice condition, not bowing like they commonly do, and even the original bridge cover (shows heavy pitting) is present.
The original frets show fairly heavy wear but still have a good amount of life left in them. The bass plays nicely all the way up the neck with comfortable, low action. There are a few buzzy spots here and there as you would expect with a heavily played vintage instrument, but nothing frets out and there is plenty of room to raise the action if you're a heavy-handed player.
The original extension rod, which is always missing, is included along with a single spec. sheet for the instrument dating to circa 1970 which is very cool to have with the bass.
The instrument is housed in its original hardshell case. The case shows heavy wear from years of protecting the instrument, but is sturdy and intact with all of the latches and hinges present and functioning as they should.
