The PRS Silver Sky, designed by Paul Reed Smith to John Mayer's specifications, features a vintage-inspired design with modern enhancements. Modeled after Mayer's early-1960s instruments, it includes a familiar shape with a distinctive cutaway scoop. Its neck carve, scale length, and fingerboard radius replicate the feel of vintage guitars, while a modified PRS-style headstock and locking tuners add a contemporary touch. Equipped with sweet-sounding single-coil pickups, it delivers glassy, musical tones with excellent note definition when paired with a tube amp. Additional features include a bone nut, molded metal jack plate, retooled knobs, custom fret wire, and PRS's double-action truss rod.
