A beautifully constructed piece of classical guitar history- made by Italian immigrant luthier Tranquillo Gianinni in Brazil, at the beginning of the early 1970's.

Featuring a highly figured Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, close- grained Cedar top, and equally impressive Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard- this guitar is made to exacting standards and with very high quality tone woods.

The Craviola was invented by Giannini as a tonal hybrid between traditional Brazilian folk acoustic guitars and the Harpsichord. The resultant instrument is a classical guitar that provides an extremely warm, deep and resonant tone with a particularly distinctive, crisp bite in the bass- reminiscent of that of a Harpsichord.

This particular example of the Craviola is in very fine overall condition, being entirely original and with no signs of past repairs evident. Recently, the guitar has received a conservative restoration, including revival of the original finish with traditional French Polishing techniques. The tuner assemblies have been carefully serviced, cleaned and oiled- and a new set of D'Addario EJ27's has been fitted.

Cosmetically, the guitar displays general imperfections over the entire body of the instrument- however there are no significantly large chips, dents or scratches overall. The cosmetic defects visible are small surface scratches and scuffs visible on the top of the guitar, while the back of the guitar shows very light abrasions that are only visible upon close inspection. There is a small cluster of scratches situated beneath the bridge, due to past re- stringing. The sides of the guitar body are also very clean overall, showing only light scratches and occasional smudges in the finish. There are however a small number of chips along the binding edge of the sides, as shown in the photos.

Beautiful checking lines are visible on the top of the guitar body, having no effect structurally or functionally- for they are only surface- level and cosmetic in nature.

The neck is in very good condition overall, with only two more notable chips visible in the finish- however the neck is still very comfortable in playing. A number of small blemishes are visible on the headstock in the form of surface scratches and slight dull patches in the finish, yet the overall surface is still very beautiful and brilliant.

The tuners have been cleaned from a state of deep rustiness, and are now free from surface corrosion and shiny. There is still some degree of pitting visible however, as seen in the photos. There are also some small hairline cracks around the center of some of the tuning pegs, as pictured. These however do not appear to effect the function of the tuners at all, and the structural integrity of the tuner heads is good overall.

The beautifully figured Brazilian Rosewood Back and sides, have recently been carefully revived and French Polished- to accent the grain patterns and warm coloration of these fine woods. The Cedar top has also received the same treatment, and shows a warm amber glow and brilliant shine.

Functionally, all hardware is original and there are no repairs visible. The neck is straight and constructed without a truss-rod, and the neck heel joint is very clean with no apparent need for a reset. The fine Rosewood bridge, as well as the saddle are in tact and function as intended without flaws. The tuners provide good stability in prolonged playing, without indication of need for replacement.

Currently, the guitar's action is setup to be low and comfortable- with string heights of 3mm for bottom E as well as top E- both measured at the 12th fret.

The frets are in very good condition for this age- with only light play wear present and approximately 85% life remaining. Recently the frets have been carefully cleaned and polished- and the fingerboard has also been well cleaned and oiled.

Tonally, the guitar exhibits a beautiful immersive tone, that is both rich and warm- yet present and able to project well. The bass in particular, is very prominent and powerful, due to the Craviola's unique body shape.

Comes with a Vintage 1970's Hard Shell Case with Gold interior lining, and in very good overall condition. This case fits the dimensions of the Craviola well and provides great protection for the guitar in transit.

In summary, a cosmetically and tonally beautiful classical guitar made from rare and exotic materials- in very fine condition for this vintage.
