a VINTAGE 1962-63 SUPER LUDWIG 400 COB (CHROME OVER BRASS) 5x14" SNARE DRUM, pre-LM400, pre-SUPRAPHONIC.    in GOOD, USED CONDITION!   This very rare Ludwig snare drum features a chrome over brass shell, COB (chrome over brass) hoops, along with all of the corresponding parts and features that were standard with this era of the SUPER LUDWIG 400 snare drum: 

Keystone badge with no serial number

Long badge rivet

Weld seam

Crimped snare beds

Rolled under bearing edge

Red felt muffler

Baseball bat muffler lever

Fully assembled, this drum weighs 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

CONDITION:

Being 60+ years old, this snare drum is going to have signs of use.  The chrome on the exterior of the shell has some areas in which the chrome has diminished somewhat, with what might be called pitting but isn't pitting as found on the "Ludalloy" LM-400s.

THERE ARE GOING TO BE SCRATCHES AND DEFECTS WHICH ARE MINOR. 

THIS SUPER LUDWIG 400 ISN'T BEING PRESENTED AS A MUSEUM PIECE.

The snare side head spins freely but the batter side has a bit of a snug feel to it.  This drum is equipped with the industry standard and most ever recorded Remo Ambassador heads on both sides.

Typical of the Ludwig 400s, this drum features 10 Imperial lugs, P-83 "Ludwig" script throw-off and a WFL butt which are still present and means that all of the critical factory parts are still present with this drum. 

One of the Imperial lugs has a dent/crater but is still very much serviceable. 

There is some rust on the throw-off and the butt has been cleaned. 

The snare wires may be Ludwig factory wires but do not say "Ludwig" anywhere on them. 

This drum has been carefully cleaned after disassembly and then carefully reassembled and tuned.  

This drum can be played right out of the box and you will probably want to do so! 

These are rare, prized and becoming hard to find in any condition.
