If you are into late 70s and 80s era punk, loud jazz, country pickin, or clean Robert Cray style blues, or if you are looking for a perfect loud pedal platform with nearly infinite headroom, this vintage Yamaha may be your answer.
This amp has an amazing clean tone and excellent reverb that is on par with a Roland JC or Fender Super Reverb tube amp. These were solid state amps designed by Paul Rivera. The distortion channel is not great. However it’s perfect for pedals if you want to stack gain stages.
The amp is also loud and heavy. But it does have castor wheels.

Here are the known issues. The high input jack is shorting out and buzzing. probably needs to be cleaned and rewired. This is one of the 1970s models from the first design. That said, the grill cloth has a greenish blue shade to it. I don’t think that’s the correct color. Not sure if its just faded with age or if it was replaced at some point. The knobs have been replaced as well. The tolex is pretty good shape considering the age of the amp but it does have wear, dings and blemishes here and there.
All in all it’s worth the money. I’ve had tube amps but have been steadily assembling a collection of the best solid state amps out there. These Yamahas are sleepers. I‘m thinning the herd though and this One has to go.
Given the need for a pickup for this amp, I am open to delivering it out a certain distance for a pickup. I could get out as far to me as Syracuse Ny or that area.
