Up for sale is my prized PJE Macon Carved Top SC, built in 2019 with a master-grade flame maple top and a gorgeously figured Brazilian rosewood board. The guitar comes with the original case and passport/CITES info for safe travel with the Brazilian rosewood so have no fear if you plan on touring the world with this beauty!

Patrick James Eggle has a well-earned reputation for flawless build quality, effortless playability, and stunning looks. This guitar has all 3 in spades.

I don’t need to explain why the top is a selling point, it’s immaculate and looks stunning from every angle and in every light. It has received compliments from looks alone everywhere it has been taken. The Brazilian board is natural and figured, adding even more layers of complexity to the overall aesthetic. As a professional player looks have honestly never been very important to me, I’d always rather an ugly guitar that sounds and plays great, but this one happens to be a gorgeous guitar that plays even better than it looks.

The “fat C” neck profile that Patrick does is the perfect LP-style neck carve. This is not a baseball bat, nor is it a skinny wizard neck. It fits comfortably in the hand and gives plenty of sustain without being so big in the shoulders that it‘s cumbersome to get your fingers around. It is slightly deeper than the current Gibson custom shop ’59 carve, but when comparing the two directly it never feels like this is harder to play. It just feels as though it is more built for your hand. It provides support rather than an obstacle and in my experience, long sessions playing this neck carve has left me with significantly less hand soreness than playing a more typical ’59 or ‘58 carve. The back of the neck has a subtle satin, unfinished feel which facilitates effortless movement across the whole length of the neck without looking like someone attacked it with sandpaper. The result is the perfect marriage of pristine looks with played-in and inspiring feel.

The scale length is fractionally smaller than a typical Gibson scale length at 24.625” instead of 24.75”. To my hands it feels more comfortable and easier to play, but not quite as loose and floppy as the 24.5” scale length in certain PRS models. There is still plenty of attack and transient presence, and faster alternate picking runs are just as pleasant to play, albeit with easier bending.

The body weighs in at a stunningly light 7.85lbs with perfect balance (no neck dive whatsoever) and is incredibly loud and resonant unplugged. This transfers directly into the amplified performance, offering endless sustain and touch sensitivity. The Mojo pickups are a perfect compliment to this guitar and whilst I rarely used the coil-splits, they do sound great and offer an additional layer of sonic flexibility to this guitar (each tone pot is a push-pull to coil-split each pickup independently, offering even more versatility).

The guitar has all the throaty bite a good LP-style guitar should have, but with a clear and bell-like top end clarity which is smooth and pleasant to play whilst never being muddy. It is of paramount importance to me that a neck hum-bucker is clear and usable across the entire tonal spectrum and this guitar absolutely meets that brief.

In the interest of complete transparency I have to disclose that there is one “modification” made to this guitar. I have removed the Emerson treble-bleed circuit that came stock with the guitar. I have included the caps and resistors in the plastic bag (see final picture) in case you want to add it back, but I personally don’t think it’s necessary. This guitar has such a lively, resonant output that allowing all of that treble to come through at every point on the volume pot just throws off the taper. As it stands now it sounds excellent across the entire throw of the volume pots. It does not get dull or muted-sounding when rolling the volume off at all.

The only other issue worth noting is the one minuscule chip on the headstock. I have photographed it clearly. This is the only reason the guitar is listed as “excellent” and not “mint”. I keep my instruments in peak working, playing, and cosmetic condition at all times but alas, sometimes life happens to an instrument being used as it was intended. It is impossible to see unless you stare at it, knowing that it’s there. It cannot be seen by anyone watching you play.

With all of that said, I am more than happy to answer any and all questions you might have as a prospective buyer, so please reach out!

P.S. If you needed more glowing endorsements then I have also included the link to the obligatory MIW video where Tim Pierce and Tyler Larson are so impressed with the PJE Macon that they choose it above everything else in the extensive selection at Angel City Guitars in LA.
