Vintage RARE 1966 Lafayette Capri Electric Guitar Pro Setup Original Hard Shell Case

A very RARE guitar. It's a 1966 Lafayette Capri with the original Hard Shell case. These guitars were made in Japan by Zenon and only made this guitar one year in 1966.

The Lafayette guitars were sold in the Lafayette Electronics Catalogs. Remember getting electronics set or maybe an amp that you assembled with your Dad? It probably came from Lafayette's catalog.

This guitar was certainly not in this shape when it got here. It was filthy dirty and neglected. Fortunately, all the parts were with it including the original case. We cleaned it up and had our Tech set it up with awesome playing action. Dead straight neck with no fret-outs. No truss rod...The Truss Rod cover is a fakey...LOL... see pic 9. It plays great! We got all the switches working but one. The rhythm switch made a nasty noise so we disconnected it. It wasn't affecting the cool sound of these single coil pickups. Very cool tone from the pickups. The twin volume knobs work as does the tone pot. We, of course, replaced the dirty input jack to insure it works when you get it.

Hard to believe that this guitar is completely original. Even the whammy bar, bridge cover and yes, the case are original. What a Time Capsule!

The guitar has a 25 inch scale neck with a 1 3/4 inch nut. If you want a big neck...you found it here. It would be described as a Baseball Bat neck for sure. Big hands will love this one.

Not sure what the color was originally. The catalog we found with this guitar was in black and white. It's sort of an off-gold color now with the cool green back. It may have been like this originally. It matches the green back well!

Now the case. Hard to believe this original hard shell case has made it all these years. All the latches still work and it's made of plastic like the Gibson Chain Saw Cases. There was no padding inside when we got it. I was happy it still had glue residue in the areas that had felt. I cleaned those areas off and replaced the missing felts pieces with new green felt pieces. Looks pretty good...yes?
