Electric guitar pioneer and Gibson endorser Alvino Rey worked on the company’s behalf in Chicago in mid 1935, along with engineer John Kutilek of Lyon & Healy, trying to develop a pickup plus a guitar amp worthy of the Gibson name. After a few detours the EH-150 amplifier was born, the world's first great guitar amplifier and for the next 30-plus years, Gibson would stay at the forefront of guitar amplifier design, a fact often overshadowed by Fender’s dominance in the vintage market.

I don't think I need to write much more about the EH-150 history here. If you are interested in such a rare piece of music history, you surely know everything about it. Therefore, I prefer to focus on the description of the offered item.

It is a rare specimen in completely original condition with some scratches in the tweed covering, but they are absolutely age appropriate.

Technically, the old piece works perfectly and also the speaker has apparently never left the cabinet. The number on the speaker chassis (56) matches the handwritten serial number (3156) on the case lid. The 87 (!) year old potentiometers and switches work perfectly, but they do crack a little. This noise becomes quieter with repeated operation so that it can be assumed that it will disappear completely after some time of use. The handle is very worn but still functional. I have deliberately not replaced it with a reproduction part to preserve the originality of the amp.The EH-150 is in original 110 Volt USA condition and has never been converted to European mains voltage. I have been running the amp for the last 35 years with an external 220/110 volt power converter, which I can also sell for additional € 50,- if needed. To be on the safe side, the tubes will be unplugged and packed separately for transportation. However, I will mark them clearly so that you don't have any problems when putting them back.
