This listing is for one (1) *Dim* 6U5 Magic Eye Tuning 6G5 vacuum tube in the straight-walled glass tube shape. It has a black bakelite 6-pin base, black or nickel plate, and bottom D getter. Labels in stock include RCA, GE, Sylvania, National Union, Raytheon, Tung-Sol, Ken-Rad. Some of our stock is re-labeled or marked with the OEM of Lafayette, Silvertone. If you're looking for a particular brand, please message right as you order - we pack and ship quickly!
Add $10 for ST (coke bottle) shape.
6E5 is more sensitive to small voltages, so it moves more when tuning than the 6G5, 6N5, and 6U5. The 6N5 (same as 6AB5) draws only 0.15A of heater current, while the others draw 0.3A. The 6G5 and 6U5 are electrically identical - they originally had different shapes, with 6G5 being an ST tube and the newer 6U5 being straight-walled. Later 6G5's were also made straight-walled, though!
Magic eye indicator tubes are tested visually for a shadow that opens and closes and their luminosity is rated subjectively as BRIGHT, normal, or DIM. They are also tested for shorts, gas, and H-K leakage. All the tubes we list have passed these tests. Because the transconductance was not tightly controlled by the manufacturers, no attention is paid to this parameter during testing. In short, a bright tube is a great tube, and a dim tube is very cheap because you'd only want to use it in a dark room!
