Yamaha TA-90 Amp RARE & SPECIAL 1970s

The mighty and unique TA-90 is actually comprised of 2 different items:

The Yamaha PE-100 preamp & The Yamaha TS-90 Amp and Cabinet.

These are the highly sought after trapezoidal speakers made from a hard styrofoam, sometimes referred to as “Elephant Ears”. These speakers sound HUGE and PUNCHY. Extremely large low end capability as well as an articulation that is in a class all its own. I separated the cable from the speakers to the amp to be able to use this cab with other heads. Originally I had the amp in a separate cabinet but returned to the speaker cab for the sale. With the amp in there it is SUPER HEAVY. But all that weight is nothing compared with the tone this amp has.
The PE-100 preamp is a 2 channel head that has reverb (currently not working) and tremolo (works fine) with volume, hi, mid, and low sliders for each channel. The sliders work great and the EQ really affects the sound. Lots of tone-shaping fun with this amp. The reverb stopped working about a year ago. You can still hear it intermittently so it has the ability to function, I just never needed it so I didn’t bother. I believe there’s a footswitch for these things but it did not come with one and I never tried a different pedal to see if it could work with something different. The only other issue is that this has the original 2-prong power cable. I was going to have my tech install a grounded plug but alas I ran out of money :(
