1951 was a long time ago, so this beautiful old box has equally old electronics. Wonderfully authentic acoustic archtop tone. The DeArmand Pickup was added over time. It slides on a chrome bar below the strings so you slide it from the fretboard to the bridge beneath the strings - position it anywhere. A single volume control with no tone control.
Has a knick in the face and is rough around the edges commensurate with its age. Beautiful old, dark glow about it. Top is spruce with, to my eyes, mahogany sides and back. Rosewood fingerboard with very unique oval mother-of-pearl inlay. The back of the headstock, as seen in the photo, reveals an inline crack appearing with the grain. It appears to be tight but it is a crack. Does not seem to effect tune or playability.
This great old archtop plays remarkably well and sounds wonderful as an acoustic while this primal but powerful pickup gives you the electric jazz guitar sound of the 1950's. Would be a spectactular instrument for jazz and swing.
