This is as full a restoration/ relic as can be!

A man walked into my repair shop with a bag of guitar parts.... (see photo) and I took my time to piece this guitar back together over the last year.

All told it required:

The solid carved spruce top:

Was in fine shape! No separation from the sides, no cracks, no lifting in the braces glue joints.

The back:

Needed to be pieced back together using 3/8” flame maple strips to widen the shrunken birch back, 3 out of 4 original braces where in the bag, I remade the lowest ladder brace.

The sides:

Were removed from the neck, rekurfed and parabolic sanded, the back glued back onto the guitar as if I was making the guitar brand new. No compromises were made here.

The back strip of binding was then replaced.

The Neck:

Was removed to do the body work, in resetting it to the body I freshly set the angle to be nice and tall.

With everything reassembled I simulated string tension in a neck jig, leveled the fingerboard, and installed new frets.

I then reliced the paint job a bit to make her look her age.

Finally the guitar got a new set of restoration tuners, a bone nut, and is currently strung with 12s.

This guitar is a fine example of what a pre war V neck Gibson can be. It’s wide string spacing (2.200” bridge and 1.750” nut) make it a joy to finger pick and the tone can be described most accurately by:

vintage, punchy, and warm!

The action is set to 3/64ths under the high E and 2/32nds under the low E.

Yes, the truss-rod is working, it should be noted it only takes half a turn of tension on the nut to yield .000” relief. (This neck is straight!
)

The guitar is strung with .012s

Also it’s adjustable bridge allows action to be tailored to your needs with ease.

Guitar comes with a new guardian case.
