Studer A80 RC (A80RC) 1/4" 7.5/15ips tape machine with new meter bridge

For sale is an A80RC 1/4" tape machine that runs at 7.5 and 15ips. It is currently equipped with a new meter bridge. The machine is available with or without the meter bridge (a $750 discount would be provided if bridge is not desired). This A80 has about 4000 hours on the clock and is in very good condition for its age with visible wear to the aluminum cover panels as would expected of a machine used in a professional environment.

The machine powers up, pulls tape, and transport is operational, but has not been evaluated further. It should be recapped to operate at original specification and without error. It is being sold strictly as-is.

The meter bridge is made by reeltoreelworld.com. It leverages the original Studer meter bridge design with some improvements, including the following -

• VU meters can be switched between normal and “peak” modes with a simple push of a switch. In “peak” ballistics of VU meters are adjusted to show peak values of recording/playback.
• The VU meter indicator circuitry is a modified replica of the Studer A80 (also A810, A812, A816) including a switchable standard VU meter mode and a peak program meter (PPM) mode.
• There is a switch to increase the sensitivity by 10dB. -10 VU mode is also useful when calibrating the recorder with a test tape where tones are recorded at a level of -10 dB below nominal and you do not have external audio frequency VU meter.

Aftermarket new aluminum cover panels are available for $500. Reels and hubs pictured are not included.

Shipping

Local pickup is strongly encouraged, but this A80RC can be shipped via uShip in the US or crated and shipped via freight at buyer's actual expense. For freight shipping, the crate is $200 and expect shipping to cost between $300-500 depending on your location in the continental US. uShip is cheaper because a crate isn't necessary for blanket-wrap shipment. On the east coast, delivery is available between Richmond, VA and NYC / lower CT at reasonable cost.
