I built this guitar in honor of Chester Davenport, an ordinary guy in a song I wrote 30 years ago – “The Demise of Chester Davenport”.  You see, Chester always followed the rules, stayed between the lines, and was taught the key to happiness was to “…be not the machine but rather, be the wheel.”  He believed them until a tragically beautiful event occured which forced him to question everything he ever knew, ultimately coming to the realization that the world in which he lived was a fabrication…a lie. So Chester broke free. Made noise. Challenged conventions. The old Chester faded away - the demise - and rose up a new man, an individual.

Like Chester, this guitar was once something ordinary and disregarded – an old reclaimed mahogany chair – which, through great effort, was transformed into something unique and completely individual.

Handcrafted using AAA select, highly figured book-matched walnut and mahogany salvaged from vintage furniture, this combination provides fantastic resonance and sustain.

The modern C shape neck was crafted from select flame maple, mahogany, and walnut center laminate. The 9.5” radius fret board is black walnut with square maple fret markers.

Its bolt-on construction includes stainless threaded inserts and 8-32 stainless hex button heads for long-

lasting durability.

Paring a single Gretsch HS Filtertron pickup with CTS pots (volume , tone) and Switchcraft/Electrosocket jack makes for an unconventional setup that has clarity, punch, and bite with the unmistakable sound of Gretsch. This is an incredibly versatile setup and truly brings out the player’s technique.

Bookending the stunning neck and body you’ll find Sperzel Solid Pro tuners in a “Chester approved” 4x2 configuration with a Hipshot 41100C string through hard tail bridge.

The body is finished in nitro and buffed up to a satin sheen. The neck is finished in Tru Oil hand-rubbed to a fine satin finish that is extremely comfortable for players of all styles. Chester really is one of those builds that proved to be a perfect example of how a unique mix of wood and hardware along with exquisite craftsmanship yield a guitar that is as individual as those who create music with him.

Experience the unique tone and playability of Chester Davenport and join Adams Guitar Company’s mission to bring quality, vintage craftsmanship into the modern age.
