Greco EGF Order made (1800 prototype) 1979 - Sunburst Nitrocellulose

Unique Greco. Order made in 1979 with solid maple top. Possibly (or probably) a prototype for the 1980 to 1982 Super Real 1800. As I have several Super Real guitars (I will probably list some more soon) and an SR 1800 I am of the opinion that it holds the same standard as the SR 1800 and share the tone caracteristics ( i.e. very good). Order Made is printed in both cavities. The back is two piece solid mahogany. The neck one piece mahogany and the lacquer is a very thin nitro. The serial, CC3879H (could be CO or CG instead), indicates that this is not a production model. A gentleman collector in New York has had it previous that I acquired it from a musician in England as in exchange from an old Martin. A pair of Dry Z pickups where installed. One of the original Maxxon pu’s still remains and come with the guitar. The pickup switch is original. The right 300 and 100 kohm volume and tone pots that came with the SR and Dry Z where installed. The bridge and tailpiece are not original.

The guitar was seen in an advertisement in 1979 in the Japanese magazine Player (see pictures) and can be easily identified due to the unique top. The ad was for the EG 850, the predecessor to EGF 850. A simpler model without the solid top. The mag comes with the guitar. A true piece of history and maybe the first real solid top LP copy from Greco. The brand that by 1980 to 82 made the most faithful reproductions and that many musicians and collectors are considered the pinnacle of Japanese guitar building art. (With the best wood).
