Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very rare and unique 1930's era Electro Voice model 620 microphone microphone with period desk stand. This mic was made in South Bend Indiana early in E.V's hay day. The 620 was the early version of the 640 model mic and had a more complicated lower pistol grip and adapter assembly. This mic was only made for a few short years before being discontinued as the 640 model which had a more practical lower yolk assembly.

Pic # 2 shows the 3nd generation 640 model in a 1940's E.V catalog. I don't even have a 1930's catalog of this 620 after all these years. The 620 was the 1st gen and only made for a few years before being discontinued. You'll notice that E.V did away with the unique lower swivel on the 620 and gave the 2nd gen 640 the yoke to swivel from.

The 620 has a very distinct look. Very art deco in nature and being somewhat elegant. It was based on the very popular search lights of the day that were used for both ceremonial purposes and for finding aircraft in the shy at night. It has a joint mechanism with an elongated lower stem that comes in a painted finish. I have only ever come across 4 of these mics in the past 12 years so I dare say E.V made a very limited number of them. Possibly just a few thousand? These were higher end microphones and cost quite a bit for that era.

It should be noted that the mic has been tested and no longer works though it still has the original element is still inside. It will need a professional rebuild to get working again but it's most likely just a bad element. Still a very good display piece. I would rate this mic an easy 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The all metal design with the stock painted finish. It's got some weight to it as well. It was an ultra modern look for it's time I'm sure. The joint mechanism tightens via screw and you can get just about any angle forward or backward needed. The front grill is free of any dents and the black silk inner screen looks great with zero holes or discoloration. there are typical small paint chips, scratches and scuff marks. The E.V badge looks very nice and completely legible.

MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a harder to come by 1950's era RCA model microphone desk stand. I don't know the model number but I have come across a few of these over the years. This is a brass stamped two piece with a polished chrome finish and a push to talk assembly. It compliments the 620 nicely. The stand also makes a stable platform due to it's low center of gravity and wider base.

The mic stand is not currently wired but you'll notice the cable goes down through the riser and exits out the side as it normally would. Normally the user would depress the side button to activate the mic but again the stand is not wired to the mic itself. The cable goes straight from the mic out the side of the stand.

This particular stand has very typical lite wear on the base and riser and as you can see. A couple very lite scuffs and scratches and pitting on the top of the base. Pretty decent overall. There is one broken screw at the very top of the stand.

The cable is soft and pliable. It comes with the vintage Cannon female XLR end connector.

Total height is appx 14 inches tall (when mic is fully raised upright) X 6 inches wide.

If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She'll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. These rarer 30's era EV mics will only go up in value.

       And as always...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.
