Marantz Model 7 / 7C Tube Stereo Preamp Officially Sanctioned Reissue / Replica VAC 1996

A near-mint, Marantz-licensed reissue of the legendary Marantz 7c tubed preamp, made in about 1996 by VAC Amps in North Carolina.

To the extent possible, parts matching the original were used; in the case of outdated or no-longer-available parts, such as paper-in-oil capacitors or germanium transistors, engineers hewed as closely to the original specification as was possible.

So what you are looking at is a lovingly hand-made and hand-wired copy of the original, officially sanctioned by Marantz, using many Marantz-branded parts. To my ears, a better deal on this kind of shimmering vintage tube sound cannot be had.

One could obtain an all-original unit, and spend thousands of dollars on its meticulous restoration, and approach the same sound quality that this unit possesses - but as we know, that would cost a pretty penny, indeed.

The unit is completely untouched, inside and out. I would not hesitate to call it near-mint. Upon receipt of the unit it was so clean that I haven't bothered to clean it any further - everything about it feels fresh and minty.

All six 12AX7's present are the Marantz-branded originals that came with the unit. 

The only flaw is that three of the spring-loaded tube covers are missing. They have few identifying marks but seem to be of a standard type.    

Everything works perfectly, the sound is superb. No oxidation is present in the controls or switches. Again, the unit presents as nearly new, aside from the missing tube covers.
