This guitar booms with nice tone and plays beautifully! Classic early generation Yamaha when they were still being made in Japan, it sounds and feels awesome and it’s in player’s condition so it can really be enjoyed!

1960’s/70’s Yamahas are some of the best workhorse guitars that were ever made. Elliot Smith rocked his Yamaha FG-180 until the end, and these G-85 A‘s were their nylon-string equivalents. This one plays beautifully, it has a great neck angle, and it has huge and beautiful tone. Fantastic songwriting guitar, everything feels accessible under your fingertips and chord choices feel effortless to move between. Most of the time these guitars from this age need neck resets, but this one feels really good and doesn’t need any work at all just how it is!

It’s had a crack in the top as you can see in the pics. I took a look at it thinking I was going to be undertaking a big repair, but it actually looked like someone already repaired it and their repair is holding it down! There’s a bit of sag in the top around the area where the damage was, but they put a reinforcement piece underneath and it’s totally doing a good job. Instead of undoing someone else’s repair (which can get messy) I’m just going with this one, this guitar is a rugged workhorse and some battle scars are not out of character. The rest of the guitar fits squarely into the “player’s condition“ category, it was made and meant to be played. There’s scratches and all that, but I would take this one over much cleaner versions of the same guitar that I see all the time. This one plays great and has all the vibes, it’s a great instrument. This is going to go up as an as-is guitar, and this is the one for you if you want a great playing and sounding classic MIJ Yamaha with some tough looking battle scars. Great guitar!
