Since 1984 Victor has trusted his Fodera basses to express his musical voice and with each new instrument, Victor and Fodera continue to explore new sonic possibilities. For his third signature fretted Yin Yang, Victor sought to have an instrument that offered a broader and unique range of tones. Earlier this year Victor visited the shop to demo various possible tonewood combinations and selected the combination of a chambered Walnut body with a White Oak neck and Ebony fingerboard. Tonally this instrument delivers deep, rich, articulate lows with wonderful presence and piano-like clarity in the upper register. In addition, the chambering to the Walnut body can definitely be heard and adds just the right amount of “air” to the overall sound.

While Victor historically has been known for using an EMG PJ pickup set, for this new bass he opted for our proprietary Fodera / Seymour Duncan Dual Coil pickups matched with our Fodera / Pope 3-band Custom Preamp. Designed in collaboration with Seymour Duncan, our passive Dual Coil pickups provide a punchy and focused tone with a natural and smooth upper midrange. Compared to an active soapbar style pickup, the tone is warmer and more organic. Wired in parallel, these pickups offer a noise-free single coil sound with added body and weight yet come with the added flexibility of full single-coil operation providing the snap, warmth, and mid-range punch of classic single-coil Jazz Bass pickups. Our 3-band Fodera / Pope preamp offers an exceptionally low noise floor, a very musical sounding EQ, and active / passive operation for the utmost reliability and flexibility whether you’re on stage or in the studio.

The top for Victor’s new Yin Yang features hand-joined Spalted Maple and Ebony. The Ebony fingerboard is beautifully adorned with Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays and a large Spalted Maple dot centered between the 23rd and 24th fret completing the Yin Yang design. The instrument’s Dovetail neck joint provides the punch and direct response of a bolt-on while allowing for uninhibited access to the upper frets.

Because of the tremendous amount of detail work involved with this model, the Yin Yang Deluxe Series is available exclusively on a direct-order basis (will continue to be limited to six (6) per year.
