Rick Turner Electroline fretless 4 string bass guitar (thick epoxy coated fingerboard)

The 18 volt piezo system, paired with the (new) Thomastik Infeld Acosticore strings, makes a very unique instrument. The detail, clarity, and responsiveness is really impressive. Superior dynamics and sustain. These nylon-core strings have a phosphor-bronze wrap and are relatively low-tensioned. I've heard some people describe these basses as having an "upright bass sound," but to me I think it sounds more like a very large classical guitar - each note rings with a very clear, pure, focused fundamental. It's definitely a very enjoyable instrument to play.

Another interesting feature of this bass is the epoxy coating on the fingerboard. I'd estimate it's approximately 1.3 mm thick, which may not sound like much, but that's a lot thicker than what you'd find on a Pedulla fretless, for example. In person the fingerboard looks like there's a glassy layer resting on the surface of the fingerboard. I doubt the epoxy changes the sound much (if at all) - I think it's more a homage to Jaco, or maybe it lends some amount of long-term durability to the fingerboard surface if you use roundwound strings. Anyway, it does look very cool.

Other features: graphite reinforced neck, new two-way trussrod, bone nut, Schaller machine heads, original Wilkinson bridge with piezo elements, 1 control (stepped volume). This bass shows signs of use - for example there's scratches, bumps, dings, wear, and whatnot, consistent with it being a 25+ year old bass. (Please take a look at the photos; I tried to accurately represent the overall condition of the bass.) Almost exactly 9 pounds.
