Offered is a beautiful example of a higher end Selmer Bb clarinet made during the best period of band instrument manufacture USA. Serial number 123XXX places the date of manufacture to the 1950's or 1960's. This Selmer Signet Special model is made from choice tight grained grenadilla wood and has nickel plated keys. Mechanically excellent condition. No wear to the keys or mechanism. No cracks or repaired cracks. The Special Model was their higher end intermediate clarinet which shares many features of professional instruments. This clarinet has just been overhauled with double skin Buffet style silicon treated pads which are water resistant and will last longer than regular pads and all new corks. Metal rings on the tenons. Plays up to pitch at A=440 with a strong rich resonant tone. These clarinets employ strong solid keys and mechanisms and hold their adjustments far better than modern instruments. This model has post springs on the G# and A keys a feature shared with many of the higher priced models. This fabulous playing instrument comes with a brand new wood replacement case with keys, a vintage period mouthpiece, cork grease, drop through swab and some reeds (not shown).
