Wandre Framez Naika Cutaway Upright Bass 1960

From the Scott Freilich collection, one of the greatest Oddballs of them all, an extremely rare Wandre Framez Naika Cutaway upright bass, 5/25 made. Nicknamed "Wandre" due to his "inquisitive nature" Antonio Pioli sought to rectify faults in musical instrument construction forming a partnership with the Meazzi Bros under the Framez name. This partnership lasted for a short time, with Pioli moving on to new ventures with Athos Davoli in Cavriago. This cutaway upright features striking Fire Engine Red fiberglass over plywood, has thick white binding throughout, with gold leaf adornment throughout; the original bridge is aluminum, with a reproduction aluminum tailpiece. Amazingly, the sunbursted neck is removable via a bolt through heel, with a bound rosewood fingerboard, and slotted pegbox. The gold painted scroll appears to be "remodeled", and there are some linear crack lines on the heel suggesting repairs there also. The binding has come up along the sides and in the f-holes and is in need of repair. Equipped with a plate style pickup held in tension on string beneath bridge.
