"The Melobar Guitar was invented by Walt Smith. Patented in the late 1960s it was a combination of a steel guitar and a standard guitar using a standard guitar body and twisting the neck of the guitar up at a 45 degree angle so a player could play over the top of the neck in the traditional steel guitar method." Excerpt from Wikipedia page.
This is one of 300 Melobar guitars produced in 1967 in the Mosrite factory. The basswood guitar body is from a Mosrite Ventura II with Walt's (patent pending) 45 degree neck installed on it. The pickups, knobs, and electronics were also Mosrite. The bridge is Melobar. Originally made for nine strings, I believe the 10th string tuner was added at the factory because several other models of the same vintage have it in the same place. Some players prefer to use a more familiar 6 string set up, in any case it will need new strings. There is some case candy included that includes a tuning guide.
