Vintage 1939 Martin D-18 w/ OHSC We are beyond excited to offer one of the finest vintage Martin D-18s that we have ever encountered. This one owner guitar was purchased brand new in 1939 by the great grandmother of the current owner and it has remained in their family ever since. She passed it along to her daughter, who gave it to her son who then gave it to the current owner. The wild part of this story is that the original owner was the only guitar player in the family so as it was passed down, it was never played! This guitar has never been circulated or sold and it has never been repaired or messed with. This Martin style D-18 dates to the year 1939 with a serial number stamped 73864.   This guitar is in exceptionally fine condition and conforms to the typical specifications of the model from this period. Features include a mahogany neck, mahogany back and sides, scalloped X bracing, ebony fretboard, ebony bridge and an Adirondack spruce top. The "C.F. Martin & Co. Nazareth PA" stamp is still clear and intact on the internal brace under the sound hole. The original "Martin & Co. Est. 1833" decal is completely crisp and intact and the original pickguard and open-back Grover G-93 tuners are in-tact and in great working condition. The bone nut and bridge appear to be original and unmodified. The frets are original and correct for the era though they are sprouting up on the edge of the fretboard just a pinch. The original gloss finish is still in great condition with no signs of crazing. There are no tool marks or signs of a neck reset ever being performed although it would need a professional neck reset to be at a general playable spec. The binding is tortoise shell celluloid which is also correct for the era and the nut measures 1 11/16th inches. . This guitar has with it what appears to be an original Harptone style case with larching and liner intact.   This guitar, in our opinion, is in museum quality condition and is an extraordinary example of the Martin D-18 Dreadnought guitar from what is considered the Golden Era of Martin guitars. We have done our best to describe every aspect of this guitar but please, reach out with any questions. This guitar is available to be shown by appointment only so please contact us directly before coming into our shop to see it. We have seen a lot of vintage Martin guitars over the years and you will very rarely ever have an opportunity to buy one that is in such remarkable condition. This guitar is uncirculated and unmodified and it is amazing!   Due to the value of this instrument, please contact us directly for payment and shipping arrangements. We will include the original hardshell case as well as a flight case if it must be shipped. We would strongly encourage any potential buyer to pick it up in person.
