I bought this bass a few months ago as my first 6-stringer ever, and have only played it for ~5 minutes. I quickly learned that my hands are too small for 6 stringers! Although I am selling this beauty, I still have a Zi-III 4-stringer that I intend to keep for as long as I am alive.
This particular bass is an amazing 6-stringer in natural walnut finish. The setup and action are great - it is ready to play. All the electronics work. The neck is rock solid, the truss rod has plenty of room in both directions and turns freely. The frets have plenty of life remaining and the ebony fingerboard is smooth. The body utilizes quarter sawn ash for the core which adds strength and an attractive edge wood graining. The body is topped with walnut.
This bass is almost 32 years old and there are only a few minor dings and scars (see pictures). I think it is in incredible condition for this age! These were well made, professional-grade basses (made in Japan).
This bass will ship in a random gig bag that is packaged professionally.
This particular 6 string model was used by Les Claypool of Primus in the early 90s when the band was just getting hot (Sailing the Seas of Cheese). You can see Les playing this bass in the attached photo.
Here is an excerpt of a Tune Zi-III-6 player regarding the superior build of the earlier Tune Zi-III bases (like this one): "The later Tune Basses did not have the heavy, angled, recessed Brass bridges, and I feel those do not come anywhere close to these earlier Zi-III instruments. A big part of this is the Pickups and Preamps, as well was the wood choices, attention to detail, and eventually the decision to make them in Korea and change the entire design. (Having played the later models a number of times, I would never own one of those, as they have nothing in common with these earlier models - which are some of my favorite instruments ever made.)"
