A "near vintage" artisan handmade guitar strap with a fascinating back story! The front fabric of the guitar strap is thick polished cotton with a series of horizontal stripes in shades of dusty rose, sage and pastel green, and creamy sugar cookie tan with intricately detailed brocade floral images and accents in tawny tan. Atop one of the striations is a layer of luscious lace. The back lining of the guitar strap is 100% sage green Dupioni silk and the pin tabs are double thick hand punched and hand stitched top quality black Brazilian textured leather. This is a beautiful guitar strap that you will be proud to put on your shoulder.
Now, for the back story. I bought this material from a vintage and antiques dealer during one of my semi-annual pilgrimages to Milton, Florida. The seller knew nothing about the fabric except that it was old, so I contacted the design company, Raymond Waites, a high end design house, to ask about the history of the material and that history turned out to be incredibly fascinating. The fabric was originally designed and manufactured somewhere between 10-15 years ago (hence, it is not quite vintage but is close). The original design came back from the manufacturer and the designers thought one of the sections was too bright so they inserted a lace accent to tone down the color. It was never commercially sold so no one outside the design house and the manufacturer ever had the material. I don't know how it fell into the hands of an antiques dealer in Milton, Florida, but I am so glad it did. Its richness, its elegance, and its uniqueness have made it the perfect handmade guitar strap.
