Ovation 1624-4 Country Artist Classic Nylon String Guitar Natural Finish

The Ovation Country Artist is one of the more unique Ovation models, and you don't see it come around very often. Basically a nylon string for steel string finger pickers, it has a traditional flat classical fingerboard, but the nut width is a slim 1-7/8 inch compared to the typical 2 inch width of a classical.

The neck joins the body at the 14th fret, same as Ovation steel sting guitars. As part of the Artist series, this guitar features the slightly shallower Artist depth bowl. The tuners are chrome-plated Schaller Classicals. This guitar is the acoustic/electric 1624 version, which still has the first generation Ovation FET preamp and single volume control knob on the upper bout. The onboard electronics are still functional and sound great.

Overall, this item is in very good condition, with one cosmetic dent in the finish just behind the bridge, which is relatively common among these vintage guitars. This guitar comes with a hard-shell case, it is not an original Ovation case, but it is a solid case with a few minor dings and dents.

Acoustically, the Country Artist delivers impressive projection and rich tone - yet even smaller guitarists find it comfortable to hold and play - whether played acoustically in a living room or run through a concert hall sound system.

Ovation acoustics made an immediate splash with their innovative acoustic-electric system in the late '60s and early '70s. These guitars were in effect the first widely embraced acoustic-electrics thanks to the combination of a state-of-the-art under-saddle transducer pickup and the shallow bowl-backed design which drastically reduced feedback. According to Ovation lore, the development of the new system was the direct result of a request from Glen Campbell, Ovation's primary endorser at the time.
