Original 1939 Martin 00-18 acoustic guitar. Rare Pre-War Martin from their golden age of guitar making. I’ve been told the bridge, pick guard and added strap peg are not original. The body, neck, frets, and tuners all look original but I am not an expert so please consult the the pics and ask any questions ahead of time. The guitar has both the period correct Martin stamp and the serial dated 00-18, 72266. This would date it to most likely early 1939.

This is a players guitar in need of work and TLC but there’s some remarkably well preserved areas such as the back of the neck and body which are in great shape. The left side appears great too, but the right side and bottom have small squares of wood used as patch repairs. There’s also a hole where the original strap peg used to be on the bottom. These are old and very stable repair jobs and fortunately not on the sides you see while playing the guitar. There’s also multiple repaired cracks in the front of the body and corner of the headstock. Most are just finish cracks however and the major ones seem to be old and very stable repairs. Where the headstock meets the neck is also in perfect shape. There is a removable shim under the nut to help with fret buzz. The original(I think) frets still have a lot of life left. There’s some visible wear in the fret board around the first few frets but nothing that affected playability. It’s in definite need of a setup and maybe a neck reset as there’s still buzzing issues. I’m not an expert in old acoustics but I think that accurately describes the condition.
The last time I played and recorded this it was remarkably big and warm sounding with crisp high end. Overall .one of the most balanced acoustic sounds I’ve ever heard. And the round V profile neck is amongst the easiest I’ve ever played, including electrics. It comes with an old hardshell case that I suspect is not original but has been with the guitar for a very long time. Please again look at all the pics and ask for any more pics or info before buying. Due to age and condition this is being sold as-is with no returns or refunds. Please feel free to make a reasonable best offer. Thank you!

Here’s some more info on this rare and beautiful model..
As part of the Martin 18 series, the 00-18 used
Mahogany for its back and sides (though examples from prior to 1917 used Rosewood). Like other orchestra or auditorium-sized Martins, the 00-18 is considered an excellent finger-style guitar. The 00-18 changed from 12 to 14 clear of the body in 1933 and 1934, which also brought an update to the body shape. Just like Martin Dreadnoughts, 00-18s from between 1934 and the beginning of World War II are the most sought-after by collectors.
