RELIST
For sale is my circa 2010 Engl Invader E642 100.
This is a fine example of a German-made amplifier and sounds exceptional. I own other German amps and I prefer to use my Engl Powerball 2 and Hughes and Kettner Triamp MK1 and Mk2. This is no slight against the ENGL Invader, it is a superb-sounding amplifier, is very inspiring to play and has a plethora of tone shaping options.
Note* Each channel has a different tone available via the high gain mode switch and bright switch.
Channel 1 is the clean channel and is a very broad and warm-sounding channel. There is plenty of all frequencies available and the high gain mode for this channel adds some extra hair and grit to the clean tone. The bright switch adds some very crystalline top end and makes the amp very bright and clear; a useful feature if you want it but I didn't personally use the bright switch on Channel 1.
Channel 2 is the crunch channel and can be pushed into heavy overdrive and the high gain mode on Channel 2 is my favourite sound on this amp and is a fine alternative to the more modern and saturated Channel 3 and 4 high gain offerings. The bright switch acts as a midrange cut on Channel 2 and cleans out the sound; useful for some more articulate, rhythm-focused sounds but I rarely used this option as I preferred the fuller sound.
Channel 3 and 4 are blistering high gain channels that are very modern and sonically refined, 4 being more compressed and saturated than 3. Either can be used for rhythm and lead work and the high gain mode on these Channels adds lots of saturation; great for legato and faster picked runs. The bright switch also acts as a mid boost on each channel; helping single notes to leap out in the mix and chords to have a more authoritative sound.
My personal setup is to use Channel 1 and then Channel 2 and it's high gain mode for lead tones; that's not to say that I don't like Channel 3 and 4, I just prefer the sound of Channel 2's high gain mode.
The amplifier has two brilliant and very transparent effects loops, plus a built in noise gate to tame any preamp hiss.
I can't praise the amp enough, its just that my tastes and preferences have changed. I work on valve amps and I haven't had to service or do any work on the Invader, it's worked from day one and has been making great and inspiring tones all the time. The sounds produced are full of overtones and acoustic feedback is very musical and controllable; it can easily become part of one's playing when using the amplifier.
Engl have been very helpful with answering any technical questions I have about the amp and I have complete faith in the brand and this amp.
Collection is preferred as the buyer can try the amp to make sure that they're happy; this amp is a wonderous thing to hear and play. Plus the amplifier is rather large, heavy and I wouldn't want to risk it being damaged in the post.
Any questions then please ask away.
Thanks and all the best
