Rare 1940’s era Shure model 55CV "Unidyne” HiZ impedance dynamic microphone with stand. The mic comes with an 8 foot vintage Amphenol cable and a standard 1/4" plug, ready to connect to most any modern mixer or interface. The original Unidyne "Voice" dynamic element is still present and is working. There are scratches around the top and general wear to the finish, especially around the handle (see photos 6-8). The red screen is very clean with no holes or tears and looks great.
Comes with a copy of the 1942 data sheet. The last photo is from the 1942 Shure Brothers catalog showing this series of mics, the 55CV is the high impedance model.

Popular with Elvis Presley and other recording stars of the era, the Shure 55 is an iconic design, an absolute classic. The cardioid “Unidyne” feature was the first of its kind to provide expanded fidelity while drastically reducing the feedback and distortion which plagued most crystal, carbon and ribbon mics of the early 20th century. Its design was much copied by other manufacturers and revolutionized microphone use for recording, broadcasting and live performance.
Not just popular with entertainers, the 55 can be seen in many famous historical moments such as the signing of the surrender of the Japanese to General McArthur in 1945 and the famous “Dewey Defeats Truman” photo of president Truman in 1948.
This version is lovingly nicknamed the “Fat Boy” because it is a much larger version of the model 55, first introduced in the 1930’s. It was discontinued in the 1950’s with the popularity of the smaller 55S (“S” for small!) version.
