One knob and the truth. What started out as a practice amp and the beginning of a learning curve for a near blind radio repairman who didn't play guitar... became one of the preeminent tones of rock and roll!
This one is serial # 2335 and was wired by Lupe whose name on tape is still perfectly in the amp. Between Julia, Lydia, Rachel, Maybell, Margeret, Lily, Eileen and ....Lupe, I believe Lupe to be the most desirable of these early angels.
The Fender Champ 600 was the 2nd iteration of the amp that created guitar tones that you've heard on a bazillion hits including Layla, and from a bazillion artists including Joe Walsh and Neil Young. You crank em up to 12 and then listen to these babies growl. Nice little secret.... they can be KILLER bass amps as well.
The champ 600 is a 5-watt with a 6 inch speaker and it has a single 12AX7A preamp tube and a single 6V6 rectifier tube. So the great news is that there is just not that much to fix if something goes wrong.
As with everything old, Fender amp.... it is possible that things have been changed as these are over 70 years old. I know very little about the history of this one other than it sounds brilliant. There is a little noise in it that I'm going to have my tech look at.
I put 1949, but I don't know if it is a '49, a '50, a 51? It's got to be way early with that low of a serial number. There are probably some changed parts and I'll include some old parts in the deal as they have been with the amp.
Amazing amp and these are only going to sky rocket in price as they are overwhelmingly becoming the most desirable future tones. Every guitar player and every producer wants a couple of these in their quiver.
Please ask lots of questions because I don't retrade deals after the fact. I'll accept a return if my description is wildly inaccurate. But there will be a 40% restocking charge.
