It is an actual power amp mini-circuit that uses a 12AX7 tube. The Ampulator provides realistic tube tone color, power amp saturation, distortion, compression and dynamics. Various interactive settings are 0.2 to 200 watts, class A to AB, tube bias, tube matching, triode/pentode, and presence. The unit can be used with digital or tube preamps to warm up the sound in live guitar rigs. It is also an extremely useful tool for direct recording.

The speaker emulation section is similar to the ADA Microcab II. There are options for 10" or 12" drivers and 1, 2, or 4 speakers. You can adjust the low and high speaker resonance (darker or brighter tones similar modifying microphone positions on a speaker) and have open or closed back cabinets.
