Original 1976 Gibson Explorer first edition

1976 Gibson Explorer First Edition Black Vintage Electric Guitar 8lb 3oz.

First thing to note is this guitar is an original 76 that sounds and plays fantastic. It weights 8 lbs 2.9OZ and has a big neck. Fantastic sustain and is an amazing sounding old explorer. It has had some replaced and modified parts as well as being refinished in black nitro.

Condition is excellent with some minor scratches and a few small nicks and dings. Over all a solid 95%. This guitar was refinished and kept in great shape. The only noteable blem is a mild discoloration in the back center of the body where someone’s belt buckle left a mark and it was polished out. Also the big neck heel was contoured for comfort before it was restored.

Neck size is a large c. It’s got a big neck!

Weights 8 lbs 2.9OZ

The pickguard has either been replaced or modified. It comes with a replica Pickguard with the right screw pattern that’s been aged and looks good too, I’ve always liked the look but if you want to see it with the ither Guard just ask. There is a replacement metal jack plate, one of the pots has been replaced. The other two pots date 1976. The pickups are Gibson 490 treble and rhythm pickups and were added later. There’s a set of gold schaller w. Germany explorer tuners on it but it is drilled for Kluson and probably came with them from the factory. The bridge is a Kluson abr-1 and the tailpiece a light weight aluminum one. As I recall these came with the heavy dye cast ones. The bridge studs and abr pin wheels are original to the guitar. Lastly the guitar has been refretted wirh jumbo wire and totally rocks. It has been pleked and recently been given a fresh bone but. Original will be included. Otherwise there are no headstock repairs or structural issues and the guitar plays and sounds fantastic.

Original truss Rod cover has awesome patina, the switch and loom as well are original, two pots are original and it looks like one replacement, original jack and shield. Barrel knobs are original to the guitar as well.

This is an amazing instrument that can be bought for a fair price. You won’t get a better explorer than a 76 except for maybe something korina and they get pricy too.
