Selling a fantastic playing,
players grade 1966 Fender Mustang that has been converted to a
string-through hardtail (ala Telecaster.)  First off, the neck on this
guitar feels amazing. It is easy to see why these old 60's Fenders are
so coveted.  Neck measures 0.85" thick at the first fret and 0.92" thick
at the 12th fret. This is the 24" scale version! Nut width is also the
standard Fender B width, measuring 1.605" inches wide, and NOT the
skinny A width (see pics for neck stamp.)  Nice, very dark rosewood
board.  Neck is functionally excellent.  Straight as an arrow, no
warping or twisting, no truss rod issues.  Classic warm ambered lacquer
with gorgeous fine lacquer checking on headstock (see pics.)
Someone
years back had converted this to a string through hardtail bridge, and I
have to say...I will take that swap all day long.  Much improved
sustain, punch, and overall more solid feel.  Whoever did the conversion
did a very good job.  The vibrato cavity is filled properly and the
string through holes are straight, even, and most importantly everything
was put in the right place.  Also as you can see it was centered, left
to right, in the exact right place...the string spacing from the outside
strings to the edge of the fingerboard is spot on.
This
guitar plays fantastic, perfect balance of slinky and tension.  The
pickups have that illusive vintage Fender single coil thing....woody and
warm, yet detailed and chimey at the same time.  They are basically
flat pole 1965 Stratocaster pickups.  Simply addictive tones.
I
can only assume this was one of the famous, "lets make our guitar a
walnut color" refinishes.  I don't believe it is the original color.
Original case, in great shape, with fully functioning latches.  This
guitar is a wonderful playing, players grade instrument with so much
life left in it.  Pics show the usual dings and scratches, but nothing
out of the ordinary. Rare chance to get a famous 60's era vintage Fender
for a very affordable price tag.  They most certainly don't make them
like this anymore!

Lots of original parts on this one...
- obvious original neck
- original body
- original pickups (neck 5.9k and bridge 5.99k...penciled date on pickup of 5-25-65)
- original electronics (pots, cap, jack, switches)
- original pickguard
- original pickup covers
- original control plate
- original control knobs
- original string tree
- seems to be the original frets which are in great shape
(I can see no obvious evidence of a refret)
- original hardshell case (latches all work)
