In the world of great “best guitarist ever plays cheapest guitar ever” stories, one of greatest examples is the story of none other than Prince himself falling in love with this random econo-acoustic that was $100 when it was brand new in 1990. I love when artists who are at a point where they could play anything they wanted on earth are still just rocking whatever feels right to them, forgetting about the price tags and brand names and just going with the gut instinct of “I like this. For good reason, because it’s seriously an awesome guitar! It sounds huge! This model always plays a little chunky, but in the best way and with absolutely giant tone. You can hear it clearly in the song “Walk Don’t Walk,” and it’s jangling around in the back of that whole album
The tone of this guitar is very “naturally compressed,” and I’ve always found guitars with that quality to sit in a mix really well with other instruments. Right of the bat a laminate guitar like this sounds perfect, a very focused and no nonsense great tone. Sometimes with acoustic guitars that are honestly way too pretty sounding (very much a thing) you will find yourself working in the mix to make them sound…kind of like this guitar does haha. Or you could just start with this one. It worked for Prince!
It’s got some battle scars here and there, but it’s an awesome player and sounds like a bell. There’s some binding missing on the back, the pickguard is missing (I actually really dig that tanline kind of look), and there’s a few scratches here and there but it’s a great player. Great guitar!
