If you collect EVH gear, you already know what "Patent Pending" means

The Patent Pending Wolfgangs are the ones built before the design patent was granted — the instruments Eddie himself was most deeply involved in developing alongside the team at Peavey. These are not later production guitars built to a locked spec. They are the guitars built while Eddie was still refining what a Wolfgang should be, and collectors of EVH instruments seek them out specifically for that reason.

I ordered this guitar in 1998 as part of the first announced run. I am the original owner.

Condition

This guitar is collector-grade and has been treated accordingly. The finish is free of scratches, cracks, or dings.

There are three very minor body impressions — two on the bass side between the pickups, one near the tone knob. These are the kind of subtle contact marks that appear on case-kept guitars over time. They are not visible under normal viewing conditions — only detectable when the guitar is held at a deliberate angle directly under a focused light source. They could not be captured on camera.

This is disclosed in full; a buyer doing an in-person inspection should satisfy themselves, and I will accommodate that.

Everything else is as you would expect from an instrument that has rarely left its case: the neck is rock solid, the frets show no wear, and the guitar plays and sounds exactly as it should.

Why the Patent Pending Models Are Different

Peavey Wolfgang production went through a meaningful transition once the patent was granted and manufacturing scaled. The earlier Patent Pending instruments represent the period of Eddie's closest personal involvement with the build process — and collectors recognize the difference in fit, finish, and overall quality. These guitars don't come up often in this condition.

The Bottom Line

This is a legitimate collector's instrument at a moment when EVH provenance commands serious attention in the market. Patent Pending Wolfgangs in this condition are genuinely hard to find. If you're building a collection or looking for the real thing, this is it.
