E.U. Wurlitzer Music in Spingfield Mass...my best friend was the Asst Mgr and my other pal managed it. On Saturdays I'd go hang out there...best days of my life trying all the gear and seeing my friends. One Saturday there was this music..muffled...insane...nothing I'd ever heard...asked Tony Caliento wtf it was..he said 'new guitar teacher". Guy was in this little room with a white Kramer and some cheap amp doing this finger sliding up the fretboard thing I'd never seen...effortlessly. Now this was LONG before we'd ever heard of Yngwie. Tony was just learning guitar....2 years in....he was just copping piano lines from the classical music he had learned as a kid.
Tony and I became pals and I took lessons from him....but I suck and we'd end up going out for pancakes instead. I later purchased his Kramer and sold it to a kid when I was at Babson College....somebody owns that guitar and has zero idea the provenance.
One night I went to the store the hook up with my pals...they had all this recording gear set up. I watched Tony Macalpine record. Later they gave me a copy of the demo tape you see here. One of a handful of copies produced most of which were sent to the usual suspects in hopes of landing attention....this very version of the tape got Mike Varney's attention and one day he called Tony...and what a day of celebration that was for us all.
I listened to this tape endlessly. It shaped me and carried me through many a tough time.
This is a piece of rock history. It is authentic and can be yours.
