Regardless of whether you're looking for your first tube amp or seeking to recreate the musical experiences of years ago, this Dynaco 70 is a great choice. Incorporating modern high quality components into Haffler's genious but simple circuit lets this amp compete with and outperform amps costing thousands of dollars more. The Dynaco 70 is true Americana and it's still made in the USA.

I am both an audiophile and a musician and my Dynaco roots go back to the late 1960's. I've never been much on expensive words or hype. I've always enjoyed the purity and reliability of a good design in anything.

The Dynaco 70 is unlike any other tube amplifier, lending itself to countless upgrades and modifications, it's easily and affordably servicable and if built right is equally as or more reliable than any brand. More important is that in its original form, like this amp is built, you'll be hard pressed to do or add anything that will improve it appreciably.

Personally I would classify the 70 as utilitarian, but it is, after all, simply a power amplifier. It doesn't need more of anything in and of itself, the magic of its sound lies in that simplicity. I true case of less being more.

If you have a mediocre preamp or low quality speakers, no amp can overcome that. Put together a quality "system" around the Dynaco 70, using the "good stuff" and you'll be forever pleased.

This is a brand new amp just completed on April 29th, it has about 20 hours on it for burn in and auditioning/testing. It's already an amazing sound experience and it's far from broken in. Hum and noise free, you'll not even know it's on until the music starts to play.

Tubes Included:
  • (4) EL34/6CA7 Power Tubes from NessTone
  • (1) GZ34/5AR4 Rectifier from Groove-Tubes
  • (2) 6U8A/6GH8A (NOS/vintage) GE tubes

This is a genuine Dynakit Stereo 70. It utilizes the current production Dynakit A470 output transformers and the PA060 power transformer. These transformers do NOT require a voltage reducer as they are wound for modern voltage (125 volts).

The quad capacitor is the 30/20/20/20 Dynakit part rated for 525 volts.
The bias supply uses two IC 100uF / 100V caps.
There are flameproof metal oxide power resistors on the quad cap, the bias supply and tube sockets.

The rectifier socket has the safety diodes, as one should desire on any ST-70 amp.

Built with 22AWG stranded and 20AWG solid core wire and Kester eutectic 63/37 rosin core solder

The circuit board is from Dynakit and is populated with audio grade metal film and carbon film resistors and features film capacitors from Kemet in.1uF and .22uF 630V rated values. The small caps are 82pF and 390pF dipped silver mica types, 500 and 1KV rated. The tube sockets are NOS Cinch brand in black.

This amp uses the standard bias configuration and is user adjustable from the two bias pots located in front of the power transformer. Bias, according to the original ST-70 manual, should be set to 1.56VDC per side but most agree that's a bit high so I suggest about 1.45 VDC for best results and extended tube life.

The inputs are gold plated and wider spaced to accommodate modern cables.
The outputs have been upgraded to banana jack / binding posts as these are just more desirable.
The outputs are 4 and 8 ohm only - the 16 ohm taps have been eliminated intentionally.

Mirror polished non-magnetic stainless steel chassis with a Brown cage/cover.
Heavy duty power cord and upgraded / larger rubber feet.
